Dot marker books work will with tools other than markers. I use them with mini stamps and stickers too.
I love scratch art. It seems to encourage holding the scratching tool with a functional pencil grasp - because it doesn't work well if you hold it any other way. It also works on strengthening your writing muscles because there is a fair bit of resistance when scratching the paper. I use stencils with this paper.

Dinosaur sticker dot art! Have you ever tried to peel a sticker off the backing without using your "pincher fingers"? It's really hard. Stickers motivate students to work on this skill. Add to that finger print stamping - a perfect fine motor kit.

Color rubbing is in the top 5 of my students' favorite activities. Put it on a clip board to keep it in place.
The perfect crayons for color rubbing because they have flat sides and they color well. Some of my students are hard on classroom materials, these are pretty much indestructible.
For kids who aren't quite ready to write, dot markers make a great prewriting activity. These are easy to grip and fun to use. I have been using these for a while and the ink has stayed pretty consistent (hasn't gotten super wet) when using.
